State NoCs are Limiting Public Sector Advance in Genetic Engineering: IARI’s Jt Director (Research)

The public sector has not withdrawn from genetic engineering. There is a restriction on testing and the limitation of obtaining NoCs (no objection certificates for field trials) from state governments, which is holding it back says K V Prabhu, Joint Director (Research) at Indian Agricultural Research Institute.
State governments, Prabhu says, should see it as just another technology and have confidence in the regulatory system. There should be no need for NoC for use of GM seeds by farmers after the central government has established their safety.
